Begin and start
Writing is an integral part of my spiritual life, and has been for many years. In the beginning, I recorded pains and frustrations, without any preconceived intention to journal or reflect. I wrote as if I wanted someone to listen. At times, sitting on the lawn late nights, I fixed my eyes on the white moon as if seeking for her to reply. Today the moon is silent as ever, but I realize someone is, was, and will always be listening.
I found my outlet for projecting questions to difficult answers through pen and paper. My tendency to postulate thoughts over and over lead me to this. As a teenager, I wanted to understand pain and disappointment. In my early Christian days, I sought to connect reality with truth. In recent seasons, I carry fragments of ideas or questions. Then I hold them until the lines between the dots or the paths to the answers seem to reveal themselves from a fog.
Writing stops the wheels from turning. Think of kneading for a moment. Consider either material, clay or dough, you must form it. The massaging process allows the hands to become intimately connected with the unfinished work. Visualizing and anticipating the forthcoming image or taste. There is no culmination until baking. Sure, clay can remain malleable and chocolate chip cookie dough is delicious, but when it comes to ideas or works, the kneading process is only part of the intended life cycle. The process is important and the effort in the process will reveal itself in the end. For me, beginning the thinking process means I should start writing. God uses much care as He shapes us and molds us, but the process is not His final intention (Jeremiah 29:11-13). Writing gives my thoughts a place to settle, to root, and to grow.
In my experience, writing reveals. It is the potential depth of revelation writing can lead to that excites me. It’s my hope my writing is some reflection of the man Jesus is molding me to be. I am aspiring my writing will encourage others spiritually. I’m also testifying that God is listening and is intent on responding. I began by asking; now I’m starting to write from it.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
“11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
