The darkness of night has come.  The enveloping mist diffuses the moonlight and confuses any hint of location. The sound of an ocean surrounds me, echoing in its own vastness.  As rain falls, I can feel the ocean’s turbulence swelling.  The imminence of an inevitable tempest upon me, how can I find shelter, surely I will be swept away.

The storm is upon me, and as if by instinct, I crouch down and hold my legs close.  Somehow, I am being gently pushed down.  Bracing myself for a strike, I hold without sight and without fear.  But fear is roaring its anger in the thunder of crashing waves.  I resist the vacuum that would leave me breathless as the waters crash into and out of themselves.  From darkness chaos is clearly shouting its desire to swallow me inside.  In deliberate disregard to its taunts, I close my eyes and seek inner peace.  The rain and the ocean crashing all around entice me to move from where I am.  In stillness I remain, in stillness I breathe.

As swift as exhaling, the storm has ceased.  There is freshness in the air and it lifts me.  I stand and open my eyes to clarity and light.  Now I see the truth of my location and recognize the hand of love.  I am standing on a high rock surrounded by the sea.  The rock floor beneath me saturated and all crevices filled with water.  If I walk in any direction I would fall.  How deep was the breath I then took, that I felt His hand upon me.  I give thanks, for He keeps me.  I need not fear the unknown, nor fear to be lead to stillness.  I will always find peace on the rock that saved me.
